User research and requirements
Peak Usability provides user research services to help our clients better understand their key target user groups and use that knowledge as a basis for the development of requirements specifications for websites and web applications.
User research
We use our extensive marketing experience and a number of tools to understand your users and in the context of your specific project objectives and business needs. These tools include:
- Focus groups
- Interviews with users
- Surveys
- Task analysis
- Contextual enquiry
- User observation
- Interviews with customer facing staff
- Call centre / customer enquiry analysis
- Website feedback analysis
We document our findings in a user research report which outlines information about your users' online and offline behaviours, demographics, psychographics, technology usage and adoption. We also develop scenarios and personas which can be used for the Design and Evaluation phases of any project.
Requirements specification
Peak Usability delivers a requirements specification that provides a blueprint for the website or application. Key components of the requirements document include:
- website purpose and goals
- target audience(s) / user groups (using personas and scenarios)
- core value propositions (what the website can offer) for each user group
- key site performance goals.
- usability and design goals
- accessibility goals
- list of proposed features and content objects for the website including:
- priority
- alignment with user and business goals
- indication of whether the content exists and to what degree
Requirements are informed by several sources including:
- our user research
- our consultation with key internal stakeholders and business areas to understand the organisation's key strategic drivers, initiatives and needs, and
- working with our clients to establish site goals, performance goals, usability goals and accessibility goals.
