Information Architecture
Information should be structured on websites to reflect the way users think. A poor structure will confuse users, sending them to the wrong part of the site, frustrate them when they can't find what they want and eventually lead them to lose confidence in the site and the brand.
Peak Usability can help you label and categorise information, and organise content and information on a website to provide your users with the foundation for a great online user experience. The process of doing this is called information architecture (also known as IA).
User research gives you understanding of your users and their goals and is an important step in providing an effective information architecture that makes sense and is intuitive to your users.
Our services and process
Peak Usability provide a full range of information architecture and navigation design services to ensure that your users can move easily and quickly around your website, easily find what they are looking for and complete their tasks.
We commonly use several tools to develop an intuitive information architecture including:
- affinity diagramming
- storyboarding
- card sorting with users, and
- understanding your users' goals (identified through user research).
Next we use task scenarios and test the information architecture with real users using index cards and/or prototypes.
Finally, we test and refine the information architecture until the majority of users complete their tasks successfully.
